Telluride Trailstop

It is almost 4 hours from Black Canyon of the Gunnison to Mesa Verde but the scenery was stunning.
We broke up the drive by stopping in Telluride for a lunch hike at Keystone Gorge, a gorgeous 2.3 mile loop with occasional rock scrambling. They tried mining there and failed miserably so there were remnants of their broken dreams along the trail.
We headed on to Cortez, Colorado, the closest town to Mesa Verde.
We were grateful the roads were clear and the sun shining despite frozen lakes and snow. We grabbed a hotel in Cortez to enjoy long, hot showers in our very own bathroom. The Mexican restaurant nearby had a coconut margarita on special. Yum. 5 🌟 stars.
